By August 18, 2023No Comments

June to November, Georgia experiences the effects of hurricane season, with major storms and hurricanes originating in the Atlantic and the Gulf of Mexico. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) predicts a likelihood of 12 to 17 named storms this year. Knowing the right actions to take can reduce the impact of such disasters. Preparation Tips:

  • Stay tuned to official storm updates.

  • Have a supply kit with food, water, medicine, flashlights, battery-operated radios, and fire extinguishers.

  • Review your insurance coverage for storm, wind, and flood protection.

  • Secure outdoor items like furniture and grills.

  • Remove yard debris, like dead tree limbs, that could become flying missiles.

Post-Storm Steps:

  • If you have damage, contact your insurance provider asap.

  • If possible, take steps to protect your property from further damage. Ex. cover roof damage with a tarp.

  • Board up broken windows or doors.

  • Take photos and document everything.

  • Save your receipts for repairs.

  • Wait to clean up BIG messes until the adjuster has assessed the damage.
