How to Avoid Frightful Insurance Surprises

By October 26, 2023No Comments

Halloween is a very spooky time of year, but insurance misconceptions can be downright scary. As independent insurance agents, we love spooky things, but not insurance misconceptions that could put you at risk. If you’re looking for auto, home, or business insurance in Cumming, GA, please contact Bradford Turner Insurance Group today. Here are a few common misconceptions to be aware of:

Misconception 1: Umbrella policies cover everything.

This is not true. Umbrella policies provide additional liability protection, but there can still be gaps. For example, business activity and personal injuries are usually excluded. Additionally, umbrella coverage only kicks in after your primary policies have all been exhausted.

Misconception 2: Auto policies cover rental cars.

Not necessarily true. If you don’t have collision and comprehensive coverage on your own policy, you won’t have any coverage for a rental vehicle either. Additionally, rental car agreements may leave you liable for things that your policy doesn’t cover, like administrative fees and loss of use.

Misconception 3: No need to review your policy at renewal.

This is a Bad idea. A lot can happen in a year, and your coverage may no longer be up to the task of protecting your present lifestyle. For example, if you inherit a valuable item or make a large home improvement, you need to make sure your policy is updated to reflect these changes.

What to do:

  • Work with your local independent insurance agent to understand what coverage you have and to identify any coverage gaps.
  • Purchase any additional coverage as needed, such as an umbrella policy or rental car insurance.
  • Review your policy annually to make sure it still meets your current needs.

Don’t let insurance misconceptions frighten you. By working with your agent, you can ensure that you have the right coverage to protect yourself and your family.
